Woman arrested in in plot to kill husband accused him of domestic violence when he filed for divorce

A Georgia mother accused of plotting to kill her estranged husband had accused the former Auburn football player of domestic violence when he filed for divorce, court doc said.

Lindsay Shiver, 36, a former pageant queen, was arrested in the Bahamas after police stumbled upon her alleged scheme to murder Robert Shiver, 38, with the help of her reported lover, Terrance Bethel, 28, and Faron Newbold, 29.

Robert Shiver, a former Auburn University football player, apparently uncovered “adulterous conduct” and filed for divorce on April 5 in Thomas County Superior Court, according to court filings obtained by The Post.

Describing their 13-year marriage as “broken,” Robert sought custody of their three children, as well as the sole use of the couple’s $2.5 million mansion in Thomasville, Ga.

He also asked the court to dismiss any claims for alimony, saying his wife was fully capable of taking care of herself, according to the filing.

The day after Robert filed for divorce, Lindsay submitted her response, accusing him of domestic violence, cutting her off from his money, and “physical and mental cruel treatment.”

In her filing, her lawyer states: “Wife feels unsafe in the marital home and has installed locks on the interior doors of the home for protection. Husband has abused the Wife in the home in the children’s presence on multiple occasions, not only physically but also mentally and emotionally.”

Lindsay denied that she had an affair when she was together with Robert, claiming that any “extramarital relationship defendant has had was during the parties’ separation and legally condoned by [the] husband.”

She also accused Robert of hiding money from her and cutting her off from his accounts and not letting her take part in their family’s lavish lifestyle. Robert is notably the son of Allen Shiver, the retired CEO of Flowers Foods, a billion-dollar baking company.

“Suddenly husband is not permitting wife to use the jet or have access to funds,” her lawyer wrote.

Lindsay claimed that in one instance, the husband used the jet to take their children for a weekend getaway without her, and refused to return with them until she called the police.

The family typically took trips to a vacation home they owned in the Bahamas, near where she met her alleged lover Bethel, a source familiar with the case told the Thomasville Times-Enterprise.

Lindsay called on the court to grant her sole ownership of their home and custody of their children, while also requesting a restraining order from Robert.

She also requested alimony payments and for the court to divide their assets evenly, including their bank and retirement accounts, cars, the boat, jet, businesses, other financial holdings and even furniture.

Representatives for Robert and Lindsay did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Lindsay was set to attend a deposition on July 18, but it was rescheduled for Oct. 31 after she was arrested in the Bahamas.

Local police said they unearthed texts that detailed the plot to kill Robert while they searched the phone of a suspected burglar at Grabber’s Bar and Grill in Great Guana Cay in the Bahamas earlier this month.

It wasn’t immediately known whether Lindsay, Bethel or Newbold owned the phone.

Lindsay, who was named Miss Houston County in 2005, allegedly paid a would-be hitman to carry out the murder as a reaction to the divorce filing, according to WTVY.

After their arrest, Lindsay, Bethel and Newbold were transported from Guana to the Caribbean country’s capital, Nassau. They appeared in court Friday but were not required to enter a plea, the outlet said.

The trio is due back in court on Oct. 5.
