Viral plane hack using vomit bags makes using your phone so much easier

It’s the in-flight vomit bag hack that’s sweeping the world.

Passengers are giving airline sick bags a whole new purpose by using them to hold their phones into the seatback, letting them view their screen hands-free while flying.

Described as “the ultimate airplane hack”, the trick has been shared by numerous TikTok users, including @dropdeadthreads.

The genius method involves snapping the vomit bag between your phone and its case, then folding the top of the bag over the upright tray table on the seatback in front.

The trick was even shared by British airline EasyJet who posted their own TikTok video last year.

And it’s sweeping the world.

Finance expert and editor-at-large of Australian comparison site Canstar, Effie Zahos, shared the hack on Twitter this week after spotting it in use on her flight from Adelaide.

“And I thought vomit bags were just for vomiting in,” she wrote. “On a flight back from Adelaide today I saw this clever DIY phone stand hack. No need to buy fancy phone stands … the old vomit bag does the job.”

While it’s not recommended if you’re a queasy traveler and likely to need to use the bag for its original purpose, many have have described the trick as life-changing.

“Once I was on a flight with some people who did this, and my travel life has never been the same after that,” posted Instagram user Noemi Sarpe, while another praised her for sharing “an actual useful and doable hack.”

And others have pointed out that many planes are actually equipped with inbuilt phone holders within the tray tables – so don’t get caught embarrassing yourself in that situation like these passengers spotted by TikTok user @manetaki recently.
