Utah home slides off a cliff in dramatic video

Dramatic video captured the moment the entire top half of a Utah home disappeared into the night, slipping down a steep hillside while first responders looked on helplessly.

The spacious two-story home, one of two on East Springtime Road in the Hidden Canyon Estates that have been slowly consumed by the collapsing hillside in recent months, began to cave in Saturday night, with the entire top floor falling away.

“We kept hoping it wasn’t going to end up like this,” homeowner Carole Kamradt told KLS-TV. “I visualized a lot of our lives in this home and they were all wonderful and beautiful.

“And looking at this now, it’s a nightmare,” Kamradt said.

Kamradt and her family had lived in their new home for less than a year before the encroaching hillside forced them to evacuate in October — when local building officials revoked their certificate of occupancy, the outlet reported.

Draper officials had been keeping tabs on the two homes ever since — and are now convinced their neighbors are also in peril.

“The conditions were related to earth shifting that resulted in sliding and breaks in the homes’ foundations,” city officials said in a statement Saturday.

“Engineers, building officials and public safety personnel are on site and have determined that two additional homes, one on each side of the previously evacuated homes, need to be evacuated,” the statement said. “The residents of those homes are being notified and are evacuating.”

The video posted on Twitter shows firefighters outside the pristine white house as the second floor falls away and into the night and onto Ann’s Trail below.

“The house across the street just fell down the hill,” the post says.

Added one commenter, “A man built this house upon the sand and the walls came tumbling down.”

The builder, Edge Homes, has been under fire for the construction gaffe and was forced to buy back the houses in January, with officials there saying they’re working with Draper to address the issue.

“From the outset of the concern with these two homes, Edge has remained fully committed to fairly compensating the homeowners for the inconvenience and disruption they have experienced,” the company said in a statement, KLS reported.

“We stand by our products and take care of our buyers, even when problems arise from circumstances outside of our control,” the company said.

Kamradt said the mishap has left her family devastated and forced her family to rebuild their lives.

“A lot of grief and remorse of the things lost,” she said. “And [I] hope now that it’s over we can move forward and find another dream.”
