USWNT’s Christen Press asks for dog photos after tearing ACL

In search of comfort after tearing her ACL, Christen Press turned to man’s best friend — dogs.

“My heart is broken: I’ve torn my acl,” the USWNT forward wrote on Twitter. “Readily accepting all love, prayers, virtual hugs, dog pics, and smudging ceremonies. Love you all xx.”

Accordingly, fans flooded Press’s mentions with pictures and videos of their own dogs in action. Even USWNT great Abby Wambach — a former teammate of Press — joined the fray.

Press, who plays for Angel City FC of the NWSL, originally suffered her injury during Saturday’s game against Racing Louisville.

Press’s injury culminated a disheartening weekend for the 33-year-old. Earlier on Monday, Press had been left off the USWNT roster for next month’s CONCACAF Championship. USWNT coach Vlatko Andonovski revealed that Press would not have made it even if healthy, citing “increased competition within the forward pool.”
