Trump gives hearty ‘Thank you’ to supporters following third indictment

Former President Donald Trump emerged bright and early Wednesday to thank his supporters after he was slapped with a third indictment in a matter of months the previous evening.

“THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!!” Trump, 77, wrote in an all-caps Truth Social proclamation. “I HAVE NEVER HAD SO MUCH SUPPORT ON ANYTHING BEFORE.”

“THIS UNPRECEDENTED INDICTMENT OF A FORMER (HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL!) PRESIDENT, & THE LEADING CANDIDATE, BY FAR, IN BOTH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTION, HAS AWOKEN THE WORLD TO THE CORRUPTION, SCANDAL, & FAILURE THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN THE UNITED STATES FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS. AMERICA IS A NATION IN DECLINE, BUT WE WILL MAKE IT GREAT AGAIN, GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE.

“I LOVE YOU ALL!!!” the 45th president concluded his message.

Special counsel Jack Smith filed four counts against Trump in DC federal court Tuesday evening.

The former president was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. He faces decades in prison if convicted of all charges.

Prosecutors say Trump peddled “knowingly false” claims of voter fraud while seeking to hold onto power following his loss to former Vice President Joe Biden in 2020.

Trump has consistently stated in public that he believes the 2020 election was “rigged” or “stolen” from him, despite close allies telling him that wasn’t the case.

Six other associates have been named as co-conspirators in the indictment, five of whom are readily identifiable from details in the charting document — including former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Trump is due to appear for his arraignment Thursday, which would bring the total number of criminal counts against him to 78.

Special counsel Jack Smith admonished the former president’s behavior.

Trump is also facing a recently expanded 40-count federal indictment from Smith over alleged stockpiling of sensitive national security documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort and a 34-count indictment out of Manhattan over alleged concealment of business records to hide hush-money payments.

The 2024 GOP front-runner is also in the crosshairs of a Fulton County, Ga., inquiry over the 2020 election in that state.

Trump has squarely denied wrongdoing across the board and claimed he is victim of a political persecution.

In late March, just before Trump got hit with the Manhattan indictment, his 2024 GOP primary lead hovered around 15 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics average.

Now it’s at 35.8 percentage points.

He’s also running neck and neck with President Biden in several polls.

Donald Trump imposed heavy pressure on his vice president to decertify the 2020 election, but ultimately Mike Pence declined to do so.

Moreover, Trump’s campaign has touted a fundraising bonanza after his two prior indictments.

His joint fundraising committee, comprised of both his campaign and the Save America PAC, raked in more than $35 million during the second quarter of this year, a period which covered his initial arraignment and second indictment and arraignment.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to the two prior indictments lodged against him and is expected to do so again Thursday.
