Singapore’s Changi Airport offers ‘glamp-cations’ to guests

Baby, it’s COVID outside!

So, happy glampers are jingling all the way to the airport for an indoor stay-cation like no other this holiday season.

As 2020 continues to Scrooge us out of Christmas cheer and travel this year, Singapore’s Changi Airport is providing citizens of the city-state with an overnight luxury “glamping” — or glamorous camping — extravaganza, complete with spacious yurts that sleep up to five, decked out with plushy fit-for-a-king queen-sized beds.

Changi Airport’s new retail complex, Jewel, serves as the glamp-grounds for the ultramodern sleepover, costing Yuletide lodgers a staggering 360 SGD ($269 US) a night for a stay in the plane station’s Shiseido Forest Valley – an indoor garden spanning five stories – or the Cloud9 Piazza, located on the top floor.

A bug- and rain-free camping experience, guests of Changi Airport’s glamp-out also have full access to walking trails through air-conditioned conservatories, Instagram-friendly views of an indoor waterfall, shopping discounts, cool picnic baskets for on-the-ground grubbing and an array of festive holiday lights

The one bah-humbug of the whole deal: Overnight visitors have to use public bathroom facilities.

“Usually we go out of the country every holiday but since we can’t travel much and it’s a school holiday, I thought why not do something different for the children,” said glamping guest Fadlina Musa, while standing under the twinkling holiday lights of her airport tent.

Echoing her sentiments, Musa’s husband, Khairil Anuar Malek, “It has been very tough for all of us, so we wanted to experience closeness at a different level.”

Happy glampers in Singapore can enjoy the camp-tacular through Jan. 3.
