Sex offender used social media to prey on single moms with young daughters: cops

A registered sex offender allegedly started romantic relationships with single mothers after connecting on social media — so he could eventually target them and their daughters, according to Oregon authorities.

Antonio Arredondo, 37, is facing a slew of charges — including rape — connected to at least two cases, with authorities probing another two that have not yet led to charges, authorities said.

The sickening allegations were publicly announced Thursday as officials look for further possible victims.

Arredondo allegedly used social media apps like Facebook to pursue romantic relationships with single moms of young daughters.

“Arredondo is eventually invited into the home of the victims and, over a short period of time, he sexually assaults the mother and/or daughter,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office alleged in a joint news release with other law enforcement agencies.

Arredondo was indicted on Aug. 2 on three counts of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sodomy and three counts of first-degree sex abuse tied to one investigation by the Tigard Police Department, authorities said.

He was hit with another charge of sex abuse in the first-degree on Monday in a separate case in Washington County.

Investigators have learned of at least two more cases allegedly involving Arredondo “with similar circumstances.” The Portland Police Bureau and the City of Dallas Police Department in Oregon are each handling an investigation.

Arredondo is a registered sex offender, “which stems from a case in Texas with similar circumstances as the ones in Oregon,” the sheriff’s office said.

“Investigators believe he has been in the Pacific Northwest for several years,” authorities said. “Since there are multiple cases throughout Oregon, investigators and the District Attorney’s office strongly believe there are additional victims in the Pacific Northwest region.”

The suspect is currently sitting in county jail.
