Prince Christian of Denmark to forgo royal salary to focus on education

Princess Mary’s eldest son, Prince Christian of Denmark, has made a surprising announcement ahead of his upcoming 18th birthday.

Breaking from tradition, the young prince has decided to forego his royal allowance and instead prioritize his education.

Although entitled to receive government funding once he comes of age, Prince Christian has chosen not to accept payments and delay becoming a full-time royal until he reaches 21 years old.

A statement posted on the Royal House’s Instagram page explained that his primary focus in the coming year will be completing his upper secondary education.

As a result, discussions regarding an annual pension law for him will only take place when he turns 21 or in the event of a potential change in the throne before that time.

The statement further conveyed that Prince Christian intends to stay away from the spotlight for now, but he will eventually resume public appearances in an official capacity.

It emphasized that his increased participation in official contexts will only occur after he reaches a certain point in his education, both currently and in the future.

Prince Christian has already made several public appearances alongside his parents and siblings, Princess Isabella (15), Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine (both 12).

However, he is not yet a full-time working royal. He is currently in his penultimate year at Ordrup Gymnasium, a public school in Copenhagen.

Rumors had recently circulated about Prince Christian having a new girlfriend from the royal circle after they were seen together looking close during an outing at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The speculation arose when a group photo surfaced on social media, showing him and 18-year-old Princess Maria Chiara di Borbone-Two Sicilies standing in proximity at the event.

Princess Maria Chiara is the youngest daughter of Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, and Princess Camilla, Duchess of Castro, who are close family friends of Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik.

Alongside her sister, Princesses Carolina (19), Princess Maria Chiara enjoys attending the Grand Prix and regularly shares glimpses of her glamorous life online.

A Danish source informed Woman‘s Day that as Prince Christian nears his 18th birthday, he is interested in having a genuine girlfriend, mainly to deter unwanted attention from admirers.

The source revealed that Crown Princess Mary would be delighted to see her son dating someone like Princess Maria Chiara, who maintains a seemingly jet-set lifestyle yet remains scandal-free, much like her older sister, Princess Carolina.

The source expressed confidence that Prince Christian and Princess Maria Chiara are indeed dating. Their families approve of the relationship, and they share similar interests in music, sports, and even films.
