Police question woman with hair sticking out of her trunk

A mysterious mop of curls dangling from the trunk of an Ohio woman’s car prompted panicked calls to cops about a feared kidnap or murder.

Turned out it was all hair hearsay.

“Oh my Jesus, that’s my weave!,” a horrified Toria Townsend exclaimed when police knocked on her door in Massillon, WJW-TV reported Wednesday.

The two responding officers then burst into laughter as the embarrassed 30-year-old social worker rushed back into her home, saying “hold up” as she raced to retrieve the contentious curls.

The June 13 exchange was captured on doorbell camera security video, and later posted to TikTok, where it went viral.

Townsend told the station she had a feeling something wasn’t quite right on her 45-minute drive home in her Kia sedan.

In her haste to get home, she tossed the wig into the trunk and forgot about it, she explained.

But somewhere along the way, an alarmed onlooker snapped a photo of the hair hanging out of the trunk along with the license plate, and sent it to the police.

“People kept mugging me and giving my dirty looks. I’m like, ‘Why did everyone wake up on the wrong side of the bed?’” Townsend told the outlet.

“Honestly, I’m glad that the person called. It shows how much the community cares,” she said. “Every time you look up, it’s not a good outcome when it comes to a person of color and a police officer. When you finally see that person having jokes and laughing with smiles — that’s amazing.

“The police officers were extremely nice. They didn’t make assumptions.”
