Person of interest in Detroit neurosurgeon Devon Hoover’s murder in custody: cops

A person of interest in the murder of a prominent Detroit neurosurgeon has been placed in custody on unrelated charges, police announced Friday.

Devon Hoover, 53, was found wrapped in a sheet and stuffed in an attic crawl space in his Boston-Edison Historic District home on Sunday, police said.

An unidentified suspect in the case who knew Hoover was arrested and is being held as investigators expand their probe.

“We’re confident this person has information about what transpired,” said Detroit Police Chief James White, according to the Detroit-Free Press.

“This was not a random act.”

White declined to elaborate on the suspect’s relationship with Hoover or any potential motive that led to his death.

Authorities stated previously that they believe a domestic dispute led to the slaying.

Several of the victim’s relatives living in Indiana alerted Detroit police after Hoover failed to show up at an event and did not answer calls and texts.

Police conducted a welfare check and discovered that Hoover had been shot several times in the head before his body was placed in the crawl space.

His car was later discovered abandoned on the city’s west side.

The popular practitioner was a respected specialist in neck and back disorders at Ascension Health at St. John Hospital, according to reports.

Former patients remembered Hoover as a conscientious and caring physician.

“Not only was he a fantastic surgeon but just a wonderful human being,” Adam Walder, a patient of 20 years, told WXYZ. “Those three days in the hospital [after surgery], he’d come in the morning to check on you, call you after your discharge to check on you. You just don’t see that anymore.”
