Paris is the best city in the world — again

The city of love conquers all.

Paris, France, has secured the No. 1 spot as the best city in the world, according to Euromonitor International’s Top 100 City Destinations ranking.

The winning spot is not unfamiliar to the French, who soared to the top of the list last year as well.

“Paris has retained the title of the world’s leading city following exceptional performance across the tourism policy and attractiveness; tourism infrastructure; and tourism performance pillars,” said Nadejda Popova, Senior Project Manager at Euromonitor.

New York City is the only American locale that made the top 10 — but it only so, barely sliding into the last spot.

The city rankings are based on economics, business, tourism, infrastructure, policy, attractiveness, health, safety and sustainability.

European destinations performed significantly better than most areas.

“The good standing of European destinations in the Index is largely attributable to two important pillars – tourism policy and attractiveness and tourism infrastructure,” stated Euromonitor.

Unfortunately, popular cities like Amsterdam (third), Madrid (fourth), London (sixth) and Tokyo (20th) did not stand a chance.

However, Dubai — which placed second in the rankings — did take the lead in international arrivals by city, with over 12 million trips in 2022.

Besides NYC, only 17 other U.S. cities made the list, including Los Angeles (14), Orlando (22), Miami (30), San Francisco (43) and Honolulu (78).

It may come as a surprise to some that New York is the top-ranked American city out of the entire country. Luckily for the Big Apple frightening crime rates, increasing homelessness and political scandals were not factors in the best city rankings.

International tourism had a positive bounce back following many COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in 2022, according to Euromonitor International, with consumers apparently looking forward to jumping back on the plane and seeing what the other side of the world looks like.

Although there is a major boost in tourism, regions are still looking for ways to improve infrastructure and sustainability and meet tourist demands, the organizatio said.
