McCarthy blasts Biden, says he ‘destroyed’ border, demands House briefing on ‘chaos’

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy ripped President Joe Biden over the migrant crisis that’s overwhelmed New York City, claiming the commander-in-chief has “destroyed our borders.”

In an interview Sunday with John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM’s The Cats Roundtable, McCarthy said New York’s migrant crisis is a prime example of the devastation caused by a lax border and immigration policy.

“The other major factor Biden has done is destroy our borders,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said.

“New York is a long way from the Mexican border. It’s closer to the Canadian border. But you’re seeing the problems, the affecting challenges here.”

McCarthy also pointed to a CNN report that smugglers who passed through the border having ties to ISIS — and demanded the White House brief Congress about the border crisis.

He said the report surfacing ahead of of the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks was particularly chilling. 

“I’m requesting all Members of Congress get a classified briefing on the chaos at our southern border. With record apprehensions of people on the terrorist watchlist — including some tied to ISIS — all Americans should be deeply concerned that terrorists can just walk into our country,” the House speaker said in a separate statement on X, formerly known as Twitter and linking to McCarthy’s interview on Sirius radio.

“People are coming from 160 countries. They’re bringing in fentanyl,” he told Catsimatidis.

He also pointed out more people on the terror watch list were apprehended at the southern border than in the prior four years combined.

 “Now, we have no idea what happened. The cartels have taken over,” he declared.

Between April 2022 and the end of July, more than 125,000 migrants have headed for the five boroughs, according to data on the zip codes where migrants told U.S. Customs and Border Protection they plan to settle. The city is on track to spend a staggering $40,000 per migrant for shelter and other care — more than any other city, The Post has reported.

Adams estimates the crisis will cost the city $5 billion by the end of the current fiscal year and $12 billion over three years.

He’s ordered all city agencies to come up with 5% to 15% in cost cuts to help deal with it.

McCarthy also burned Biden over his administration’s emphasis on green energy policies rather than making America energy independent.

“We want to be energy independent … That makes the environment better,” McCarthy said on efforts to fight climate change.

“We have been able to lower our emissions across this world based on American natural gas,” he said. “If we replaced Russian natural gas in Europe for one year… that would lower 215,000,000 tons of emissions, because our natural gas is 41% cleaner than Russian natural gas. The other part … if you’re buying it from America, we are creating more American jobs.”

“The Biden administration has gone in and done an attack on the energy business,” he declared. “[It] only wants renewable energy instead of all-of-the-above” like nuclear energy, natural gas as well as wind and solar energy.

“[It] made the price of energy higher … made inflation higher, because the gasoline prices are now higher,” McCarthy asserted. “Jet fuel prices are higher. Inflation gets added on compounded, so your food prices are higher. This is made by [Biden’s] policies attacking American energy. It doesn’t mean we buy less. It means we’re buying it from our enemies.”

The White House had no immediate comment on McCarthy’s criticism.

But a White House official last week defended the administration’s border policies, saying Biden sent Congress legislation to reform “our broken immigration system.” Republicans refused to pass it.
