Mauricio Garcia’s stepdad speaks out speaks out after Texas mall shooting

The stepdad of Texas mall gunman Mauricio Garcia called the massacre “horrible” Monday and promised to work with cops investigating it.

Jose Sai Ortuno, a drywall installer in the Dallas area, condemned his stepson’s actions at the Allen Premium Outlets on Saturday, when Garcia opened fire on shoppers with a semi-automatic rifle, killing eight and injuring seven others.

“You know how people are feeling about this, this horrible thing,” Ortuno told the Daily Beast. “Believe me, it’s horrible.

“And it’s double for us,” the stepfather said, apparently referring to the bloodshed and Garcia’s involvement and death.

“We want answers, too,” Ortuno said.

Police said they have been in contact with Garcia’s parents and known acquaintances as they investigate the motive behind the deadly rampage.

Garcia posted a slew of hateful rhetoric online targeting Jews, women and people of color before the slaughter.

Officials also are investigating the gunman’s ties to neo-Nazi groups and ideology. Police found a patch on the dead shooter’s clothing on his chest with the acronym “RWDS,” which stands for “Right Wing Death Squad,” according to a law-enforcement official who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Garcia posted a similar patch on a tactical vest before the shooting, touting it on social-media sites popular with extremists groups, where he also shared the posts targeting minorities.

Garcia’s social-media accounts also included two dozen posts about the mall, including tracking when the outlet would be the busiest, apparently to launch the most carnage.

Investigators have yet to release a motive for Saturday’s shooting or why Garcia chose to specifically target the Allen shopping mall, located about 25 miles north of Dallas, where his parents live.
