Joe Biden asks son Hunter to ‘stand up’ in Ireland

President Biden asked his son Hunter Wednesday to stand and be recognized at an Ireland event billed as an ancestral homecoming for the first family — before telling his scandal-ridden son he was proud of him.

“I’m here with my sister Valerie and my younger son, Hunter Biden. Stand up guys, I’m proud of you,” the 80-year-old president said in Dundalk, near the border with Northern Ireland.

Biden also joked to distant relatives in attendance for his remarks that he might damage their reputations with his visit — though he didn’t specify why.

Hunter, 53, was by his father’s side throughout the day Wednesday — after spending Easter weekend at Camp David and hanging out at the White House Monday ahead of the trip.

Hours earlier, the first son served as presidential umbrella-holder as his dad spoke with Irish prime minister Leo Varadkar on the tarmac in Dublin, then stood by Biden’s side while he took questions from kids.

Wednesday night’s shout-out came as House Republicans step up their probe into Joe Biden’s role in Hunter and first brother James Biden’s foreign dealings — amid a separate investigation by the Delaware US attorney’s office into whether Hunter committed tax fraud, illegal foreign lobbying and money laundering, in addition to lying about his drug use on a gun-purchase form.

A White House spokesperson told The Post Tuesday that Hunter’s and first sister Valerie Biden Owens’ personal expenses would not be covered by taxpayers, though it’s unclear what exactly they would be paying for on their own.

“Historically, family members of presidents and first ladies have frequently joined them during international travel. Current practices are consistent with those used by prior Administrations. They cover all additional personal expenses,” the spokesperson said.

It’s not unusual for members of a president’s family to join him on trips abroad — in fact, former President Donald Trump’s adult sons Don Jr. and Eric joined him on a 2019 jaunt to Ireland.

However, Hunter Biden’s visibility is notable as investigations into his conduct intensify.

The House Oversight Committee recently gained access to Suspicious Activity Reports submitted by banks to the Treasury Department regarding possible crimes and panel Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has subpoenaed the bank records of key Biden family associates.

Hunter Biden regularly joined then-Vice President Biden on international trips aboard Air Force Two while actively seeking out business.

During the 2020 campaign, then-President Donald Trump likened Hunter to a “vacuum cleaner” that would suck up money for the Biden family wherever his father traveled.

In 2013, Hunter cofounded with Chinese state entities BHR Partners, which was registered 12 days after he joined his dad aboard Air Force Two for an official trip to Beijing.

Hunter introduced Joe Biden to BHR CEO Jonathan Li during the trip and Joe Biden later wrote college recommendation letters for Li’s children.

The current status of Hunter’s 10% stake in the firm, which says it manages nearly $2.2 billion in assets, remains unclear.

In April 2014, Hunter joined the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma and earned up to $1 million per year despite no relevant industry experience, as his father traveled to Ukraine and pushed US support for the country’s natural gas industry.

He left the board in 2019.

In 2016, Hunter Biden emailed a Mexican business associate, Miguel Aleman Magnani, apparently while aboard Air Force Two with yet another business associate, Jeff Cooper, en route to Mexico, complaining that he hadn’t received reciprocal business favors.

“We are arriving late tonight on Air Force 2 to Mx City. I’m attending meeting [with Mexican] President [Peña Nieto] and dad. Would love to see you but you never respond. I am really upset by it,” Hunter wrote in an email recovered from his abandoned laptop, noting, “We have been talking about business deals for 7 years. And I really appreciate you letting me stay at your resort villa . . . but I have brought every single person you have ever asked me to bring to the F’ing White House and the Vice President’s house and the inauguration and then you go completely silent.”

After Joe Biden left office as vice president, he allegedly was involved in a venture that also involved first brother James Biden, who along with Hunter received $4.8 million in 2017 and 2018 from CEFC China Energy, according to a Washington Post review of laptop records.

Joe Biden was referred to as the “big guy” in communications, according to two of Hunter’s former associates, and an email in May 2017 said he was due a 10% cut.

An October 2017 email from first son Hunter Biden’s laptop identifies Joe Biden as a participant in a call about Chinese energy company CEFC’s attempt to purchase US natural gas.

The 80-year-old president has repeatedly said that he’s “proud” of Hunter, while attempting to frame his legal issues as a regrettable byproduct of an addiction to crack cocaine.

Critics note, however, that such dealings spanned more than a decade and involved other members of the Biden family.

“I have great confidence in my son. I love him, and he’s on the straight and narrow, and he has been for a couple years now,” Joe Biden said in an October interview with CNN.

The first family’s pursuit of overseas income began even before Joe Biden took office as vice president in 2009.

First brother James Biden openly boasted about selling influence to his brother, then the powerful ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as he and Hunter Biden sought to take over a hedge fund based in New York in 2006, according to the book “The Bidens: Inside the First Family’s Fifty-Year Rise to Power” by Politico reporter Ben Schreckinger.

“Don’t worry about investors,” James Biden allegedly told a corporate executive.

“We’ve got people all around the world who want to invest in Joe Biden … We’ve got investors lined up in a line of 747s filled with cash.”
