I got busted by a Southwest flight attendant for my sneaky seat-saving hack

This sneaky airline passenger just earned her membership into the denial-high club.

A traveler filmed the moment she was busted while attempting an ingenious method of preventing fellow passengers from sitting next to her on a plane.

A TikTok video detailing the epic passenger shaming incident has amassed over 3.1 million views online.

“As you can see I was trying to do reverse psychology,” explained the creator, Sophie, in the caption to the clip of the incident, which took place on a flight to San Jose, California.

She was reportedly flying Southwest Airlines, which is known for not having assigned seating.

In an attempt to game the system and enjoy a seat-mate free flight, Sophie decided to avoid making eye contact with the remaining passengers trying to find a seat.

While her corneal cold shoulder initially seemed to do the trick, it soon backfired after a flight attendant called out over the loudspeaker.

“If you’re trying to avoid the eye contact so nobody will sit in the middle, that’s not going to work today,” he announced on the intercom.

The mortified gal’s eyes widened as she realized the steward was talking about her.

The flight attendant added that saving the seat Louis Vuitton bag was not going to fly either.

TikTokkers were in hysterics over Sophie’s backfired attempt to land a poor person’s first class with one writing, “I would’ve cried.”

“This why I put in my headphones and look at my phone,” said another, while a third wrote, “I will never fly southwest. Thanks for informing me about this.”

However, others sided with the flight attendant. “It’s the southwest humor,” observed one armchair air travel expert. “It also delays the flight when people deliberately make it harder for people to find seats so he’s actually being nice!”

Meanwhile, one TikTok wit joked that next time Sophie should stare at her fellow flyers “so you freak them out and they won’t sit next to you.”

The TikTok creator subsequently posted a response video, in which she indicated that she tried out the commenter’s suggestion — but didn’t reveal if it panned out.
