Husband Tony McClelland arrested in wife’s hit-and-run death

A Minnesota man has been arrested on murder charges in the hit-and-run death of his wife, weeks after the lifeless body of the mother of six was found discarded by the side of a road before dawn.

Tony McClelland, 47, was taken into custody Monday night in connection with the June incident that led to the death of his wife of more than a decade, 49-year-old Angela McClelland.

The now-widowed husband faces charges of felony second-degree murder and criminal vehicular homicide, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Shortly after 5 a.m. June 25, Angela McClelland was discovered dead near the intersection of Legend Road and Killian Road in Fort Ripley Township, where she lived with her husband.

Officials said the woman appeared to have been fatally struck by a vehicle, which apparently did not remain at the scene.

So far, officials have kept mum about the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.

Investigators said they had spent the past two weeks “following up on interviews and gathering pieces of evidence” resulting in Tony McClelland’s arrest.

They did not say what information specifically led them to the husband.

McClelland remained in the county jail pending a court hearing.

The 47-year-old was convicted of a DUI in 2006 and served 90 days in jail, according to court records cited by CBS News.

Angela McClelland’s obituary revealed that the couple married in October 2011 at the world-famous Little White Chapel in Las Vegas and were “inseparable.”

The pair, who had six children between them, shared a passion for travel, hunting, ice fishing, and generally being outdoors.

Angela McClelland, 49, a mother of six, was found dead by the side of the road not far from her home two weeks before her husband’s arrest.

“Angie especially loved to spend quality time with Tony taking trips around that lake on their pontoon in the evenings,” the obituary stated.

The married mom was described as a “contradiction” who sometimes “was shy and quiet and other times she was loud, eccentric, and often the center of those that gathered around her.”

“People naturally flocked to Angie,” it said.
