‘Human smuggler’ kills 7-year-old girl in horror smash: cops

A man transporting illegal immigrants killed a 7-year-old, her grandmother and two others in a vehicle collision while trying to get away from police according to Texas authorities.

Local politicians have been left outraged by the incident and the whole town of Ozona has been grieving after Rassian Natery Comer, 22, smashed a truck into a vehicle containing Maria Alvarez, 71, and her granddaughter, Emilia Tambunga, who both died according to local reports.

Comer had 11 illegal immigrants in his truck, two of whom died in the wreck, later identified as males aged 42 and 45 who had been brought into the country illegally from Mexico.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to The Post that Comer is being investigated for people smuggling and a litany of charges against him related to the crash are pending. On Thursday he remained in critical condition in hospital following the incident.

The victims were identified as Maria Alvarez, female, 71, and her granddaughter Emilia, 7.

Comer had refused to pull over when police tried to stop him for speeding Monday night then sped through the small town of 17,000, blowing through a red light before smashing into Alvarez’s vehicle.

“While I am heartbroken, I am also enraged,” tweeted Rep. Tony Gonzales. “Enough is enough. Illegal immigration is killing Americans. We need to stop with the rhetoric & deliver solutions.”

Several emergency services were called to the scene including a medical helicopter and an Airmed airplane, but Alvarez and Tambunga were both declared dead at the scene.

Funeral services are taking place Thursday for the beloved duo, who were described as being very close. The girl’s distraught mother, Elisa Tambunga, told local media.

“My dad, sister and I are trying to process,” the mother said. “We just need prayers right now.”

While crashes and rollovers involving illegal immigrants are in southern Texas, deaths or injuries usually only involve the smugglers or migrants being brought into the country. It’s rare that uninvolved bystanders are hurt or killed.

Comer was identified as a native of Bossier City, Louisiana. It’s possible he was recruited by a smuggling organization through social media. Cartels often recruit drivers from out of state to travel to Texas to drive illegal immigrants with the promise of thousands of dollars if they are successful.
