He ‘could not last a week in Texas’

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ripped Eric Adams’ claim that the Lone Star governor is a “madman” for bussing border crossers to the Big Apple — saying Hizzoner “could not last a week in Texas” handling its migrants.

New York City’s frustrated Democratic mayor had warned during a town hall last week that the recent flood of the asylum seekers into the Big Apple would “destroy New York City” — and called the Republican gov a “madman” for transporting thousands of migrants from his border state to liberal cities such as Gotham.

Abbott fired back on “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Monday that there are “so few” migrants in the Big Apple that it’s “outrageous [Adams] would make a comment like that.

“When I first heard that, I thought about Frank Sinatra singing ‘New York, New York’ when he sang ‘If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere.’ Well, the mayor may have made it to be mayor of New York, but he could not last a week in Texas,” Abbott said.

Abbott’s administration has bussed thousands of migrants to the Big Apple since last year, part of an overwhelming wave of about 110,000 since spring 2022, but that’s nothing compared to what Texas is currently dealing with, the Texas governor said — before blaming Democratic President Joe Biden’s border policies for the influx.

“What’s maddening is the fact that in New York and Chicago and DC and LA and other places, they put out policies proclaiming that they’re ‘Sanctuary Cities,’ and they love to promote these liberal ideologies until they have to actually live up and apply them as clear that the policies of ‘Sanctuary Cities,’ ” Abbott said, referring to local governments that limit their cooperation with the feds involving some immigration rules.

“Letting everybody live for free simply [does] not work,” Abbott added.

Adams has also raged against Biden’s inaction during the crisis.

“Month after month I stood up and said this is gonna come to a neighborhood near you. Well, we’re here, we’re getting no support on this national crisis, and we’re receiving no support,” Adams said during the town hall on the Upper West Side.

The first bus shipping migrants from Texas arrived in Midtown on Aug. 5, 2022, though thousands more asylum seekers have arrived since from the border.

According to data shared by Abbott, Texas has sent more than 13,000 asylum seekers to the Big Apple.

“One hundred ten thousand migrants we have to feed, clothe, house, educate the children, wash their laundry sheets, give them everything they need, health care,” Adams griped.

About 10,000 migrants come to New York City each month, city officials have said. At first, most were coming from Venezuela, but then Ecuadorian nationals and Russian-speaking individuals also began arriving through Mexico.

Nearly 60,000 migrants are currently being sheltered by the city, according to local officials.

Adams has warned that the rising costs of helping and sheltering migrants has turned into a “financial tsunami,” with a price tag that could exceed $12 billion over the next three years — and result in up to 15% cuts in city agency spending by next spring.
