Have you been using dry shampoo wrong? This hack beats grease for longer

Love dry shampoo? But, wait, there’s more!

Dry shampoo was already a fave tool of fine-haired femmes, but one beauty guru has revealed that many powdered ‘poo users are putting it on all wrong.

Bambi, who boasts more than 278,000 followers on TikTok, dished her secret online: Dousing her day-one post-shower roots in powdered — not aerosol — dry shampoo.

“For my fellow greasy-haired gals, use a powder dry shampoo on day one hair,” the content creator advised in a clip amassing 1 million views.

“It has been the biggest game changer.”

The beauty TikToker revealed that her hair previously would feel oily after just a few hours, but after spritzing the “heavy duty” product in her locks, it lasts for days.

Bambi recommends putting dry shampoo in day one hair — or freshly washed — to maintain its freshness.

After applying the spray, she flips her head upside down and shakes out her hair by the roots to use the spray as a “root volumizer.”

While viewers championed her easy hair hack, others voiced concerns regarding over-using dry shampoo on the hair and scalp, a longstanding point of contention among beauty lovers.

Despite its name, dry shampoo doesn’t cleanse the hair, and relying on it between washes may lead consumers to under-wash their scalp and strands.

While sprinkling on some of the powdered product is fine post-workout or when you’re in a pinch, experts advise against substituting it for a true shampoo and condition.

“Dry shampoos should not be used as a regular replacement for real shampoo, as they simply do not clean the scalp; they do not remove oils, dead skin cells, pollution, sweat or other products,” Anabel Kingsley, the president and head trichologist of the haircare brand Philip Kingsley, told Byrdie.

“Remember, your scalp is skin and needs similar TLC to be healthy — and hair grows its best from a healthy scalp.”

Not only does it prevent oil, she said, but also volumeizes at the root.

Experts have long debated the perfect time to forego washes, with recommendations ranging from once a week to every other day depending on hair type and lifestyle.

“If you only wash your hair once or twice a week, you should double cleanse (as in shampoo twice) and then condition as usual,” Kingsley told Byrdie.

“For infrequent hair washers, I also recommend using a daily anti-microbial scalp toner and a weekly exfoliating scalp mask to give your scalp a little helping hand.”
