Girl injured at Pennsylvania’s Dutch Wonderland when box cutter falls out of rider’s pocket

A young girl was injured at a Pennsylvania amusement park when a utility knife fell out of a roller coaster rider’s pocket and struck her in the head over the weekend. 

The girl, who officials described only as a “preteen,” was with her family at Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster on Saturday when she was struck in the head by the “box cutter-type device,” East Lampeter Township police said, according to WGAL.

Luckily, the tool was not open at the time, and the unidentified child suffered only a minor head injury, cops said. 

She left the park with her family before police arrived and was treated at an urgent care facility, officials said. 

It is not clear what roller coaster the girl was standing under when she was injured, but a Reddit user said the box cutter fell from the Kingdom Coaster, Lancaster Online reported.

The incident was considered accidental and no criminal charges will be filed, authorities added.

Knives and box cutters are among the “cutting instruments” prohibited at Dutch Wonderland, according to its website, which also states that the park “reserves the right at all times to conduct bag checks.” 

Dutch Wonderland opened in 1963 and features more than 35 rides, including three coasters.
