Georgia elementary school teacher James Andrew Cecil facing multiple child pornography charges

A Georgia elementary school teacher is facing multiple counts of child pornography charges following a tip from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children.

James Andrew “Drew” Cecil, 38, a fourth-grade teacher at Poole’s Mill Elementary in Cumming, was arrested after deputies investigated the tip reporting the online sexual exploitation of a child, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit began probing the allegations from the tip, which initially identified the individual involved as a teacher.

During the investigation, Cecil was identified as the suspected teacher. He was eventually arrested and charged with nine counts of possession of child pornography and one count of sexual exploitation of children.

The Forsyth County School System said Cecil was a teacher and volleyball coach at North Forsyth High School for five years before he moved to Poole’s Mill Elementary School in 2021.

“He has not been at school since April 14 when we were made aware of the allegations against him,” the district said in a statement to Fox 5. “As of April 21, he is no longer employed with Forsyth County Schools.”
