‘Fatherhood’ (Netflix), ‘Luca’ (Disney+) & More

It’s Father’s Day weekend, which means it’s the unofficial start to summer. After the year we’ve all had, it’s time to celebrate, spend time with people we love, and laugh a little. Thankfully, our weekend picks can help with all of that. With dozens of new options on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and beyond, we’ve gone and done the hard work for you, highlighting the biggest and best new titles out there. With so much to choose from, we here at Decider are happy to help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.

New Movies and Shows to Stream This Weekend: Luca, Dave Season 2, Fatherhood, and Chivas: El Rebaño Sagrado

Disney+ is releasing the much-anticipated Luca this weekend. Even though it’s animated, the filmmakers visited the Italian coast to get inspired, and the film delivers a big hit of Italy, with beautiful imagery and plenty of scenic views of delicious pasta to kick your wanderlust into full gear. Hulu is releasing the second season of Dave, about an aspiring white guy rapper trying to prove himself to the world (and to a cavalcade of other real-life rappers and celebrities playing themselves). Coming out the Friday before Father’s Day, Kevin Hart will pul at our heartstrings with his dramatic role as a widower trying to raise his daughter in Fatherhood on Netflix. And Amazon Prime will premiere the four-part docu-series Chivas: El Rebaño Sagrado, the story of a beloved Guadalajara football club as they attempt a comeback after several seasons of defeat. Hopefully, this preview will help you decide what to watch this weekend; so check out the highlights and the full lineups we’ve got listed below:

New on Disney+ June 17: Luca

Enrico Casarosa directed Pixar’s newest feature, Luca, a film that takes place on the Italian Riviera and is based around Casarosa’s childhood and his relationship with his best friend. The titular character of Luca (Jacob Tremblay) is a sea monster who, much like Ariel before him, is tired of life under the sea. His parents (Maya Rudolph and Jim Gaffigan) are not supportive of his desires to go above the water line, but his friend Alberto (Jack Dylan Grazer) is happy to encourage Luca’s adventures on land. Together, they eat pasta, ride scooters and generally live that Italian life you dream about.

New on Netflix June 18: Fatherhood

Father’s Day is Sunday, and just in time for everyone’s favorite holiday where you give grill tools to the man in your life, Netflix is debuting the new Kevin Hart film, Fatherhood. Based on the true story of single widowed father Matthew Logelin, the film is produced by the Obamas’ production company, Higher Ground, and sees Hart pulling more dramatic weight onscreen as he navigates life alone with a young daughter.  Fatherhood is just one of many films that are new on Netflix this month, take a look at the complete list to see what else is coming to the streamer.

New on Amazon Prime Video June 18: Chivas: El Rebaño Sagrado

Chivas: El Rebaño Sagrado literally means Chivas, the sacred flock, not to put any pressure on the Chivas de Guadalajara football team or anything. Chivas, which is new on Prime Video this weekend,  is a docu-series that follows the soccer team’s latest season and their attempt to stage a comeback with new players and a new sports director. With never-before-seen footage and access to players past and present, the series delivers all the feels that a good sports story should as the team works together to rewrite their history.

New on Hulu June 17: Dave Season 2

While season one of Dave saw our hero, Dave Burd, a.k.a. rapper Lil Dicky, trying to convince his friends (and the TV audience) that he can and should be a rapper, season two sees Dave/Lil Dicky going forth and making an album. The show, which is mostly fiction, but uses real celebs to play themselves to hilarious effect, brings a new batch of celebs into the weird and sometimes uncomfortable universe; last season’s cameos included Kourtney Kardashian, Charlamagne tha God and Marshmello, this season Burd brings in Kendall Jenner, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Hailey Bieber among others.
