Driver dead in Massachusetts crash that sent engine flying through home

A 19-year-old man died after he crashed his car while fleeing from Massachusetts police — with the impact so violent that it sent the vehicle’s engine flying through the second floor of a nearby home, officials said.

Massachusetts State Police caught the driver, who has yet to be publicly identified, speeding near the intersection of Routes 9 and 202 in Belchertown, on Sunday night, WWLP reported.

The driver of the 2011 Nissan Altima then sped away from police, driving through a red light and crashing into a mulch bed on the curb, causing the car to go airborne.

The flying vehicle went on to strike a rock wall, a large tree and a light post before slamming into a 2023 Jeep Wrangler parked on North Main Street and hitting a nearby home.

Police said the force of the crash was so great, the Altima’s engine block was knocked out of the vehicle, going airborne itself and flying into the second floor of a brick home at 73 North Main St.

The engine crash left two large holes in the house, with a large crack running between them.

The collision also sent the 19-year-old driver flying out of his car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A 2020 Buick Envision that was parked next to the Jeep Wrangler also sustained damage during the horrific crash.

Police said no one else was inside the 2011 Nissan Altima at the time of the incident, and no one inside the home where the engine landed was injured.

Massachusetts State Police did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for additional information on the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
