‘Doomsday mom’ Lori Vallow smirks in booking photo after sentencing

Unhinged murder mom Lori Vallow Daybell smirked Tuesday in her new prison booking photo after being hit with five life sentences for brutally killing her two young kids.

With her head tilted slightly to the right and her eyebrow raised, the “Doomsday prepper” appeared to pull back her mouth in a sneer reminiscent of the smile she previously sported in an earlier booking photo following her devastating conviction.

Vallow was booked into the Pocatello Women’s Correctional Center, a high-security women’s jail roughly 55 miles south of Idaho Falls, 24 hours after being sentenced to spend the rest of her life behind bars without the possibility of parole.

Vallow Daybell was convicted in May of killing her two youngest children, 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, as well as conspiring to kill Tammy Daybell, her fifth husband’s previous wife.

Her husband, Chad Daybell, was also implicated in the crimes and is awaiting trial on the same murder charges.

Vallow pleaded innocence before the judge handed down the hefty sentence, claiming that “accidental deaths happen” and that she had heard from her dead children, “who are very busy and happy in heaven.”

“I have had many communications with Jesus Christ, the savior of this world,” she told the court. “Because of these communications, I know for a fact that my children are happy and busy in the spirit world … [B]ecause of … communications with my friend Tammy Daybell, I know that she is also very happy and extremely busy,” she said in court.

Vallow Daybell killed her young children in September 2019 just weeks before Tammy Daybell was killed.

Vallow Daybell and Chad Daybell married in November 2019, two weeks after Chad’ estranged wife Tammy died.

The couple fled to Hawaii, where they were arrested in connection to the children’s mysterious disappearances and shortly before police found the kids’ burned bodies were found in a makeshift grave near Vallow’s home in rural Idaho the following summer.

After the murders, they allegedly collected Social Security benefits and life insurance money related to the three deaths, prosecutors said.

Vallow Daybell’s defense team argued she was brainwashed by Chad Daybell, who told her she was a “sexual goddess” who was supposed to help him save the world by gathering 144,000 followers so Jesus could return.

Former friends testified, however, that Vallow Daybell had spewed the cult-ish rhetoric herself, calling her children and other people in her life had been taken over by evil spirits and turned into “zombies.”

Vallow Daybell allegedly believed people either represented light or dark — the latter of which were those who had signed contracts with the devil.

According to her beliefs, the only way for some people to lose their “dark” spiritual attachments was through spiritual castings, or their deaths.

Vallow Daybell was committed multiple times for treatment to make her mentally competent for the court proceedings, but authorities ruled there wasn’t any evidence that the gruesome murders could be pinned on her deteriorating mental health.

She still faces two other cases in Arizona — one on a charge of conspiring with her brother to kill her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, and one of conspiring to kill her niece’s ex-husband. Charles Vallow was shot and killed in 2019, but her niece’s ex survived an attempt later that year.
