‘Doomsday Mom’ Lori Vallow appears to smirk in new mugshot

“Doomsday Mom” Lori Vallow Daybell appeared to flash a smug smile in her latest mugshot after an Idaho jury found her guilty of murdering her two children and her husband’s first wife.

Vallow Daybell, 49, was booked at the Madison County Jail, where the cult mom appeared with double French braids and a white and orange prison uniform.

Her appearance was a far cry from the stern look and wavy hair she sported during her six-week trial, where she stood accused of killing her son Joshua  “JJ” Vallow, 7, and daughter Tylee Ryan, 16, in 2016.

The children’s remains were unearthed in the backyard of Vallow Daybell’s fifth husband, doomsday author Chad Daybell, in June 2020.

Vallow Daybell was also accused of plotting with Chad to kill his first wife, Tammy Daybell, who died at their Salem home on Oct. 19, 2019.

Madison County prosecutors painted Vallow Daybell as a wannabe cultist driven by “money, power and sex” to commit the killings under the guise that she was driving out evil spirits possessing the victims.

Vallow Daybell and Chad planned to use the life insurance money from Tammy’s death, which was originally believed to have been a result of natural causes, as well as to keep on collecting on the children’s Social Security and benefit payments while hiding the fact that the kids were dead, prosecutors argued.

Within days of Tammy’s funeral, the couple decamped to Hawaii, where they were married and lived for several weeks before authorities tracked them down in January.

Vallow Daybell’s defense attorney, Jim Archibald, tried to counter the allegations against his client, claiming she was the one being manipulated by Chad over his apocalyptic teachings.

Vallow Daybell faces life in prison, and has been ordered to remain incarcerated until her sentencing date, which was scheduled for a later time.

Chad will be tried on similar charges for the deaths of JJ, Tylee and Tammy at a later date.

The cult mom has since been extradited to Arizona to face conspiracy to murder charges in the case of her ex-husband Charles Vallow, who was shot to death by Vallow Daybell’s brother, Alex Cox.
