Dolly Parton’s makeup routine is flawed, dermatologist says

Her makeup is lastin’ longer than 9 to 5.

New York dermatologist Dr. Connie Yang is sharing why you shouldn’t sleep with makeup on, even though music legend Dolly Parton does.

“Wearing makeup to bed on a regular basis can lead to a variety of skin issues,” Yang, a cosmetic dermatologist at PFrankMD by Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, told The Post.

Parton, 77, admits in her new memoir, “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones” (Ten Speed Press), that she started wearing makeup ’round-the-clock in the 1980s in case of an earthquake. She was living in California at the time.

“I thought, ‘I’m not heading out on the streets without makeup in case there are cameras out there! I’m going to be ready to go!’ ” she writes in the book, which was released Tuesday.

The Post reached out to Parton for comment.

While Yang understands stars staying in glam, she says it’s important to give your skin a breather.

“When you leave on makeup overnight, you are also missing out on the opportunity to use skin-care actives, such as retinoids and chemical exfoliants, that stimulate collagen and provide long-term anti-aging benefits,” she explained.

The “Jolene” singer claims to remove her makeup when she wakes up.

“It doesn’t matter when you clean your face as long as you clean it once a day,” Parton reasons. “After I wake up, I do all the little rituals, and then I start over again and go out every day and look good all day long.”

Without proper cleansing, dead skin cells can build up and skin can grow dull.

Failing to remove heavy foundations and primers can lead to acne breakouts.

“Many cosmetic products contain fragrances, dyes and preservatives that, when left on the skin for prolonged periods of time, can lead to irritation and inflammation,” Yang said.

“Makeup is great, but healthy skin is even better.”
