Disneyland Paris staffer fired for denying guest whipped cream, Nutella waffles

These guests really put their service to the test.

A Disneyland Paris employee who was sacked after guests griped that he refused to put whipped cream, Nutella and marshmallows on their waffles says he got the ax because he was an outspoken strike leader.

Loris Taboureau, 20, was working at Les Chariots Gourmands, on June 26 when guests requested both whipped cream, Nutella and marshmallows as toppings for their waffles, according to a dismissal letter obtained by Le Parisien newspaper.

Taboureau said they had to choose one of the two toppings — Nutella or whipped cream — which is their policy.

The sticky incident unfolded after customers saw Taboureau load all of the sweet toppings on the waffles ordered by the people in front of them in line.

When they confronted Taboureau asking why the group before them could get all of the toppings, he allegedly replied in “a tone that the customers described as nonchalant: ‘They are my pals,’” according to The Sunday Times.

While Taboureau admitted to giving whipped cream to some colleagues who ordered when customers weren’t around, he told the paper he couldn’t break the stand’s rules for everyone in line.

“When my colleagues came, there was no one around the kiosk. I put a little whipped cream on their waffles. Customers arrived soon after. If I had given cream to the whole queue, I would have been reprimanded,” he said, later adding, “I did not use a nonchalant tone.”

Taboureau expressed disbelief over being fired for his first misstep — and said he believes he got the ax for his role in industrial action strikes earlier this year.

During the strikes, staff stopped working and held marches to try and gain an across-the-board €2,400 ($2,605) annual raise.

He was also named and pictured in an article about the strikes previously published by Le Monde.

“I’m upset. It’s a company in which I liked to work and to which I dedicated my days for a year,” Taboureau told Le Parisien.

“The only time I failed to bring the magic to life, I was immediately fired,” he added.

The National Union of Autonomous Trade Unions (UNSA) representing Disneyland Paris employees has denounced the “witch hunt” against strikers, as five other employees who were involved in the strikes have also allegedly been fired under similar circumstances.

A Disneyland Paris spokesperson told The Sunday Times: “We do not comment on internal procedures related to individual situations.”
