Crying makeup is a hot new TikTok beauty trend

This one’s for the sad girls: Crying is now a makeup trend.

According to TikTokers, looking like you’re on the verge of tears actually makes some people look better — and you don’t have to get emotional to achieve the look.

Last week, makeup artist Zoe Kim Kenealy posted a now-viral TikTok directed at the “unstable girlies,” showing how to achieve a sorrowful look through makeup.

In the clip — which has been viewed almost 3 million times — Kenealy creates a redness around her eyes, nose and cheeks using powder and makes her eyes look teary with liquid glitter eye shadow.

To finish, she smudges the lips with a combination of color and gloss, then adds some glittery gel on her face to imitate tears.

Kenealy’s post immediately divided users — many in disbelief that looking upset is so hot right now.

“I definitely do not look good when [I] cry y’all lucky tho,” someone wrote.

“My signature makeup since 2012! i want to look like I’m pretty crying all the time,” another user gushed, adding, “As opposed to the miserable crying I usually do lmao.”

“No really I feel so pretty after sobbing and coughing my lungs out,” agreed another.

The crying trend has taken off on TikTok, with 5.1 million views of the hashtag #CryingMakeup. Other creators have shared how they achieved the look, with many opting to smudge the makeup around the eyes and applying glittery eyeliner on the lower lid.

“Crying in the few glittering tears way, not like sobbing,” user Ha Vay wrote, alongside her teary look.

Other users had a quick and easy way to achieve the trending look.

“Step 1: put on eye makeup,” a user joked. “Step 2: cry about everything that’s wrong with me.”
