Couple searching for lost dog’s owner finds man on ground for 2 days

An Indiana couple who found a lost dog were searching for the pup’s owner when they stumbled on an elderly man who had been helplessly on the ground for at least two days before he was discovered.

The pair of good Samaritans ran into the wandering pup on National Dog Day after she broke free from her chain Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

While the two went house-to-house looking for the dog’s owner, they heard shouting from one house that caught their attention, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man walked into the house and found the senior citizen on the ground where he was “immobilized” for at least a couple of days, the sheriff’s office said.

The two quickly called 911 and the man was rushed to the hospital. A rescue worker told deputies that if wasn’t found soon, he might have died like that, authorities said.

“Thank you to these good Samaritans for their kindness in caring about the dog but also potentially saving the elderly male,” the sheriff’s office said.

“Dogs truly are man’s best friend. Although it was not her owner, this pup breaking loose likely saved a life.”

The dog, who has been nicknamed nicknamed Daisy by sheriff’s deputies, was brought to animal control and soon reunited with her owners.

“She is back home safely,” the sheriff’s office said Monday.
