‘Coastal cowgirl’ declared trend for summer: ‘Sprinkle of Western vibes’

Strap on your riding boots and giddyap — it’s gearing up to be “coastal cowgirl” summer.

The latest style trend spawned on TikTok has sent city girls stampeding for cowboy boots, straw hats and statement-buckle belts — just in time for popular music festivals Coachella and Stagecoach.

With 7.4 billion views on the app, the fashion trend is the edgy cousin of the “coastal grandma” look of 2022 — it’s got the same softness of linen with a touch of Southern twang.

Fashionistas are styling their 10-gallon hats with denim sets — a beachy rendition of a Canadian tuxedo — or breezy, silky frocks.

“As summer is approaching, there’s a merge sort of happening — last year there was the ‘coastal grandma’ going on, and I feel like now we’re having a sprinkle of Western vibes,” fashion content creator Kristina Errington told The Post.

While the Virginia-based TikToker, 35, is influenced by her Texan roots, “cowboycore” — the edgier sibling to the dainty “coastal cowgirl” — has been steadily on the rise thanks to hype about Paramount’s popular series “Yellowstone.”

Plus, trendsetting queen Beyoncé saddled up in her best Western, with a blinged hat and silver steed gracing her “Renaissance” album cover, which solidified the style off the runway.

On the runway, Philipp Plein took note in his Milan fashion week space cowboy rodeo, which featured bedazzled brims and chrome boots in his fall-winter 2023 collection.

In Paris, Stella McCartney’s fall ready-to-wear line brought a subdued elegance to ranch chic, complete with braided detailing, cow print and saddle bags showcased down a dirt runway.

Now, everyone has a hankering for the Western style, reaching for a pair of cowboy boots rather than Louboutins.

“Western styles have been getting more popular,” Errington said. “This trend makes it accessible for everybody who wouldn’t necessarily be wearing cowboy boots on a random Tuesday.”

Even style influencer Matilda Djerf, founder of Djerf Avenue who spearheaded the “coastal grandma” trend, is incorporating a statement straw hat into her timeless wardrobe.

But this time around, TikTokers are hailing influencer Paige Lorenze, founder of the brand Dairy Boy, as the inspiration for “coastal cowgirl.”

Even while living in Manhattan, long before the retreat to her Connecticut cottage, she dressed to the beat of her own drum and sported Western-style boots down city streets as an ode to her small-town roots.

Lorenze, who has over 645,000 combined followers on social media, told The Post that cowboy boots, broken-in “vintage distressed denim shorts” and an oversized jacket are the “coastal cowgirl” essentials in her closet.

“A good pair of denim is a must,” the 25-year-old said.

But not everyone is on board with the trend.

One TikToker, Abbey Sadleir, described the style as “costume-y” in a viral clip, noting that she would only consider a pair of cowboy boots at most.

“I wouldn’t wear half of that stuff that I’m seeing everyone post about,” she said in the video.

Chelle, another TikToker, declared she was a “coastal cowgirl way before it was a trend,” growing up riding horses beachside – but it was not the aesthetically picturesque life perpetuated by Instagram.

Chiming in with her own “coastal cowgirl” clip, Chelle responded to a video someone else made of household essentials that emulated the style, poking fun at the trend by showing off her dirt-stained boots.

“I, too, am a ‘coastal cowgirl,’ ” she said. “I don’t own any of that s – – t.”
