Carlee Russell boyfriend deletes her from social media posts

The boyfriend of the Alabama woman who disappeared from a highway, causing a frantic manhunt before mysteriously reappearing at home two days later, has wiped all trace of her from his social media.

Thomar Latrell Simmons’ Facebook page, once filled with glamorous photos of him and Carlee Russell smiling together, now shows barely any sign of the 25-year-old nursing student, including his assertion that she was “fighting for her life for 48 hours” during the time she was missing.

The change came hours after Hoover police revealed they had found internet searches where Carlee had looked up a movie about kidnaps, whether she was too old to be the subject of an Amber Alert and the price of bus tickets to Nashville in the days before her disappearance.

“She was literally fighting for her life for 48 hours, so until she’s physically & mentally stable again she is not able to give any updates or whereabouts on her kidnapper at this very moment,” Simmons wrote in the since-deleted Sunday post.

Russell had disappeared from Interstate 459 in Hoover, Alabama, last Thursday night after telling police and a relative that she saw a young boy wearing a diaper alone on the side of the road.

“Hi, I am on Interstate 459 and there just a kid just walking by theirselves [sic],” a calm-sounding Russell told a dispatcher in the released 911 call. She then phoned a relative, but the call abruptly went silent.

Russell’s disappearance prompted a huge search and gained national attention amid fears she had been kidnapped.

Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama reportedly raised over $63,000 in reward money toward the effort.

Russell re-emerged two days later, with surveillance footage showing her walking alone on the sidewalk toward her family’s house. Her family called 911 and police arrived to find her “conscious and speaking,” despite dispatch reports that she was “unresponsive but breathing.”

Russell was taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released. She agreed to a single interview with police, but had not cooperated with their requests for a second interview, officials said Thursday.

“She stated when she got out of her vehicle to check on the child, a man came out of the trees and mumbled that he was checking on the baby,” said Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis, in recounting her statement to police. “She claimed that the man then picked her up and she screamed.”

“He then forced her into a car. The next thing she remembers is being in the trailer of an 18-wheeler,” Derzis said.

Russell allegedly told police that the man, who was white, was with a woman, whom she never saw, and that she also heard a child with them.

“She told detectives the male had orange hair with a big bald spot on the back.”

She then allegedly tried to escape, but was re-caught and forced to undress. She said she thought they took pictures, but did not have sex with her. Russell further described how she had been fed cheese crackers but ultimately escaped after running through woods and making it back to her family.

Derzis further described how Russell made several odd internet searches, including “How to take money from a register without being caught,” the Liam Neeson kidnap revenge thriller “Taken” and about costs related to Amber Alerts.

She also allegedly stole a robe and toilet paper from the spa where she worked, and stopped at a local Target store for snacks that were not found in her car after she disappeared.

Asked what exactly happened in the 49 hours Russell was missing, Derzis responded: “That’s the $100 question.”
