Arizona woman Jeanne Roblez Howell found dead in Bryce Canyon National Park

An Arizona woman was found dead at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah after she went out for a hike and never returned, officials say.

Jeanne Roblez Howell, 64, was reported missing on Friday after she didn’t come back from her 2 p.m. hike on the Fairyland Loop trail, the National Parks Service said.

NPS, the Garfield County Sheriff’s office and the Utah Department of Public Safety searched the area and found the Sedona native around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning in Campbell Canyon — a mile east of the Fairyland Loop.

Howell was pronounced dead at the scene.

A cause of death has yet to be determined by the Campbell County medical examiner, but NPS noted that a thunderstorm dumped heavy rain on the area on Friday afternoon.

Flash flooding was reported in dry washes along the 8-mile trail, NPS said.

“This is a tragic event, and our deepest sympathy goes out to the victim’s friends and family,” said Allana Olbrich, acting Bryce Canyon superintendent.

Bryce Canyon National Park, which celebrated its 100th birthday this year, is located roughly four hours northeast of Las Vegas.
