Alex Murdaugh appeals murder convictions

Disgraced South Carolina killer Alex Murdaugh is appealing his recent conviction in the murders of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, court papers show.

Murdaugh’s legal team filed the Notice of Appeal late Thursday.

The 54-year-old, whose full name is Richard Alexander Murdaugh, is currently being housed at the Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia.

Murdaugh’s trial played out in South Carolina’s Colleton County over the course of six weeks. The once-powerful, now-disbarred attorney also faces charges for a litany of other crimes.

Alex Murdaugh was given two life terms for the murders of his wife and son.

He was found guilty on March 2 of two counts of murder for the brutal June 2021 executions of his 52-year-old wife and their 22-year-old son. He has one surviving son, named Buster.
