Aaron Hernandez’s brother arrested for allegedly plotting school shootings

The older brother of late football star and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez was arrested last week for allegedly plotting shootings on two New England college campuses, police said.

Dennis John “D.J.” Hernandez, 37, was arrested on Wednesday — for the fourth time this year — after police received reports he was planning attacks at Brown University and the University of Connecticut, the arrest warrant obtained by WFSB stated.

One witness, believed to be Hernandez’s ex-girlfriend, told police that he borrowed her car on July 7 to attend a court date, but instead drove to the UConn and Brown campuses to “‘map the schools out,’” the statement continued.

“[Hernandez] said that ‘he has a bullet for everyone,’” the witness claimed, adding that she believed Hernandez was “extremely sick.”

About two weeks later, on July 19, Hernandez allegedly made a series of threatening posts on social media.

“‘Will I kill? Absolutely. I’ve warned my enemies so pay up front,’” the last line of one of the posts read.

In another disturbing online rant, Hernandez specifically mentioned UConn, where he previously played college football.

“UConn program is going to pay unless I have a package deal and I get my estate and every single thing I have worked for,” he wrote, according to WFSB.

“I’m prepared to give my life so if I don’t get to see you on the outside know I love you always. Not all shootings are bad I’m realizing. Some are necessary for change to happen.”

Officers arrested Hernandez at his home later that day, the arrest warrant said.

Hernandez was charged with second-degree breach of peace and physical threats, according to the Bristol Police Department.

Due to Hernandez’s history of fleeing police on foot, a large police presence was used to confront the Connecticut native at his home.

Two young children were also removed from the scene by their mother before the arrest was made, the police statement noted.

Hernandez eventually exited the house and yelled multiple times for officers to shoot him before he was subdued by a Taser.

He was then treated at the hospital, where he continued to rant and make threats.

While receiving medical care, Hernandez is alleged to have verbally threatened anyone who profited off his late brother, including ESPN.

Hernandez is now being held on a $250,000 bond by the Department of Correction.

Hernandez was first arrested this year when he led police on a pursuit, WFSB reported.

He was nabbed a second time just a few days later when he threw a bag with a brick and a hand-written note at ESPN’s Bristol outpost.

He was arrested a third time earlier this month when he missed a court date related to the ESPN incident.

Hernandez and his brother, Aaron, were both star high school football players in Bristol.

Aaron was initially committed to play alongside his brother at UConn, but eventually went to the University of Florida, where he was coached by Urban Meyer before joining the New England Patriots in 2010.

Aaron’s promising career imploded in 2013 when he was arrested – and later convicted – of the murder of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd.

On April 19, 2017 – while facing both a life without parole sentence and accusations of involvement in other murders – Hernandez took his own life in his prison cell.

D.J. Hernandez wrote in his 2018 book, “The Truth About Aaron: My Journey to Understand My Brother,” that both he and Aaron were physically abused by their father growing up, CNN reported.
