Kamala Harris insists she and Biden will ‘win the election’

Vice President Kamala Harris has little doubt that she and President Biden will prevail in 2024.

“We will win re-election. We will win re-election, Harris insisted during an interview snippet that aired on “CBS Mornings.”

“There is too much at stake and the American people know it.”

Harris, who lost the Democratic Party nod to Biden in 2020, gave Republican detractors a fright this week when she noted that as vice president, she “may have to take over.”

“I’m answering your hypothetical, but Joe Biden is going to be fine. So that is not going to come to fruition,” Harris told an Associated Press reporter Wednesday.

“Every vice president understands that when they take the oath, that they must be very clear about the responsibility they may have to take over the job of being president.

“I am no different.”

At 80, Biden is currently the oldest president in US history. He would be 82 at the start of a hypothetical second term and 86 at the end of it.

Republicans such as 2024 hopeful Nikki Haley, 51, have issued ominous warnings about what would happen to the country if Harris, 58, ascended to the presidency.

But Harris sought to allay such concerns.

“I work with Joe Biden every day,” Harris told CBS. “The work that under Joe Biden’s leadership our administration has accomplished is transformative. I think the American people, most of all, want a leader who actually gets things done.”

Both Harris and Biden launched their re-election campaign back in April, coinciding with the anniversary of Biden’s 2020 campaign debut.

But early polling shows a tight general race.

Biden trails almost all of the major 2024 Republican aspirants, albeit mostly within the margin of error, a recent CNN poll found.

Biden has a 0.4 percentage point edge over former President Donald Trump, 77, the GOP frontrunner in the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate.

Harris began the day in Jakarta, Indonesia, wrapping up her visit to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit on behalf of Biden before jetting off earlier Thursday morning.

Biden was slated to depart Thursday evening for the annual Group of 20 meeting, which will take place in New Delhi, India, from Sept. 7–10.

Critics of Harris quickly dogpiled on her insistence that too much is at stake in 2024.

“Correct. There is too much at stake. Under #PresidentBiden: – inflation is up, – crime is up, – American leadership is in decline. Americans know who will #MakeAmericaGreatAgain. Again,” Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) tweeted.

“Imagine thinking with ‘too much at stake’ (which there is) that ANYONE would want the current Obama administration to remain in charge,” national security commentator Drew Berquist wrote.

“I seriously doubt that!” user David posted with an image of an NBC poll showing her favorability rating underwater with 32% positive and 49% negative.

At least one user appeared to ding conservative critics who ridiculed Harris’ insistence she and Biden will prevail.

“If you are convinced that @realDonaldTrump will win, why are you worried about what she is saying? #Elections2024,” user Trim Ademi wrote.

Despite Republican criticisms, Harris and Biden have crowed about progress on the economy such as cooling inflation and low unemployment figures. Jobless claims recently plunged to the lowest levels since February.

Harris’ favorability rating sits at 36.8% favorable to 55.2% unfavorable, per the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate.
