Kansas cat named Bob turns up 1,200 miles away 10 years after going missing

A Kansas cat that went missing from its owner’s yard ten years ago was miraculously found 1,200 miles from home earlier this month in faraway North Carolina.

The green-eyed tuxedo cat named Bob turned up in the town of Fuquay-Varino, just south of Raleigh, after being found by somebody who brought him to an animal hospital, where they scanned his identification chip.

“I do wish Bob could share his story about his life the past decade,” his owner, Carol Holmes, wrote on a GoFundMe seeking funds to help volunteers bring Bob back to her.

Holmes last saw Bob while on one of their “daily excursions” in her Wichita neighborhood alongside her two other cats back in 2013.

“One day he didn’t come back with the other two boys. I searched high and low. Posted flyers, on various sites, etc.,” Holmes said. “No luck.”

Holmes had named Bob after her father. Oddly enough, she received an unexpected email on August 19, which would have been her father’s 94th birthday.

“I was home thinking about my Dad and missing him. I happened to check my email and was absolutely stunned to find two emails instructing me to contact 5 Points Vet Hospital in Fuquay-Varino, N.C.,” she said.

“They had found my missing cat, Bob! He was traced back to me via his microchip!”

“I can only assume he was catnapped and moved to N.C.,” she said.

Bob is currently in the care of the individual who found him while Holmes raises funds to bring him back home through the volunteer group Home Cat Transporter.

She started a GoFundMe with a goal of $1,200 just two days ago, and it has already raised $1,550.

Any extra cash from the fundraiser will be donated to animal rescues, Holmes said.

“I had spent the week prior to my dad’s birthday thinking of him, missing, him, and of course thinking about Bob,” she wrote.

“I’m excited to bring him home! I believe he’s a message heaven sent!”
