Petition calls for Alexee Trevizo to be booted from college

Nearly 14,000 people have signed a petition calling on New Mexico State University to expel Alexee Trevizo, the teen accused of strangling her newborn child and leaving his dead body in a hospital garbage can.

The appeal came days after a judge modified Trevizo’s bail conditions to let her attend the university in person ahead of an October trial, according to KFOX14/KDBC.

Trevizo, 19, was charged in May with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence after secretly delivering her baby boy at Artesia General Hospital, police said.

She allegedly copped to the unthinkable crime and apologized after being confronted by doctors.

“I’m sorry. It came out of me and I didn’t know what to do,” she allegedly said, according to security footage of the examination room where she had been admitted, purportedly for back pain.

The online petition called on “authorities and educational institutions to take immediate action to prevent Alexee Trevizo from pursuing a career in nursing or social work or any field of education,” without citing evidence that the accused killer was studying those fields.

“We believe that her recent actions, which include being charged with the murder of her newborn baby by throwing the infant into a trash can, demonstrate an alarming lack of empathy and disregard for human life,” read the petition, started Thursday by Evelyn Grasiano.

“Allowing someone who has been involved in such a heinous crime to pursue an education, especially one that involves caring for others is not only morally wrong but also poses significant risks to potential patients or clients,” it continued.

“By denying Alexee Trevizo entry into New Mexico State University (NMSU) or any other educational institution within our state, we can prioritize both public safety and ethical standards.”

Trevizo had largely denied she was pregnant, instead blaming her weight gain on taking birth control pills, classmates told the Daily Mail last month.

However, she had confided to some that she was indeed pregnant, even telling them she planned to name the child Alex, according to the outlet.

Trevizo, who locked herself in the hospital bathroom to deliver and allegedly kill the baby, at first claimed the child was stillborn, but medical examiners ruled the death a homicide.

Her lawyer has claimed that the hospital was at fault in the baby’s death, arguing that staff gave the teen drugs, including morphine, that killed the infant before birth.

Trevizo faces up to life in prison if convicted.
