Hunter Biden flew on Air Force Two with VP Joe to 13 nations: report

Then-second son Hunter Biden flew on Air Force Two with his father, Vice President Joe Biden, to at least 13 countries, often arranging meetings with business associates for his investment firm Rosemont Seneca Partners, Fox News reported this week.

Between 2010 and 2016, Hunter Biden joined the vice president for state trips to Serbia, Italy, Mexico, and China, where he was able to introduce his dad to key investors or associates and at least once offered a ride to one in the VP’s motorcade, emails on the first son’s abandoned laptop show.

The now-53-year-old regularly disembarked the vice presidential aircraft on a separate staircase from his father during the trips and can be seen in video footage sitting in Joe Biden’s official car.

During the same time period, Hunter also traveled to Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Spain, Germany, South Korea and Japan with his father — and went on to receive Secret Service protection on solo trips to Belgium and the Philippines, among other nations, according to a 2020 joint committee report from Senate Republicans.

The overseas ventures began one year after Hunter co-founded Rosemont Seneca Partners with partners Devon Archer, Eric Schwerin and Chris Heinz, the stepson of then-Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass).

In one notable instance in 2014, Hunter was under official protection while attending a conference in Lake Como, Italy, where he met with the owner of Ukrainian gas company Burisma Holdings, Mykola Zlochevky.

The Burisma owner offered Hunter and Archer seats on the firm’s board, where they served from 2014 to 2019, earning up to $1 million annually.

The first son dropped his Secret Service protection shortly thereafter.

On another occasion, Hunter offered to introduce a Mexican business associate to his father during a trip to Mexico City, where he also met with local officials.

“We have been talking about business deals and partnerships for 7 years,” he wrote in an email on Feb. 24, 2016 to Alemán Magnani. “And I really appreciate you letting me stay at your resort villa…but I have brought every single person you have ever asked me to bring to the F’ing WHite [sic] House and the Vice President’s house and the inauguration and then you go completely silent – I don’t hear from you for months.”

White House visitor logs show that Magnani had met with Biden at the White House in February 2014 and that he and his father, Miguel Aleman Velasco, later got a tour of the press briefing room.

“I don’t know what it is that I did but I’d like to know why I’ve delivered on every single thing you’ve ever asked – and you make me feel like I’ve done something to offend you,” he said.

During a May 2010 state visit to Spain and Belgium, Hunter also assured his business associate Mark Doyle he would be able to “catch a ride” with his dad before moving on to meet Serbian Ambassador to the US Vladimir Petrovic.

“How about we go over around May 10th. JRB will be in Madrid and I can catch a ride with him and fly over to Serbia and back with you,” Hunter wrote in an April 16, 2010, email, referring to his dad by his initials.

“The Ambassador wants to start putting together a full day for you with Tadic and potential investors and was wondering if there is a doc he could look at and send along to them outlining the fund etc.,” Doyle responded three days later, mentioning Serbian President Boris Tadic.

Doyle served as a senior adviser to Biden in the US Senate and as national finance director for his failed 2008 presidential campaign.

Schwerin, the president of Rosemont Seneca, also weighed in on the itinerary on April 26, 2010, telling Doyle in an email that “Hunter would like to try and get to Serbia right after going to Madrid with his Dad.”

“Right now, the idea is that Hunter might not have a specific investment opportunity to pitch – we are hoping to know about Matador by May 15th – but he would want to talk in general about Rosemont Seneca and the investment opportunities,” Schwerin said.

“More of an introductory trip. Once we assess the investors interest areas (Wind, real estate, hedge funds, etc.) we can schedule a follow up trip to talk about the specific investment opportunity.”

Hunter emailed Petrovic three days later that he could no longer make the meeting and suggested rescheduling, but the two would not trade emails again for a few years, the laptop shows.

In August 2016, Hunter flew to Belgrade with his dad and offered to meet with former Serbian foreign minister and UN General Assembly President Vuk Jeremic, who was running for UN Secretary General at the time.

“As I’ve told you many times before I will do anything I can to help b/c I so believe in you agenda for the UN,” Hunter said in an email on Aug. 13, 2016. “Nevertheless, as I have also said many times I won’t  engage in I [sic] advocating on your behalf with my father or anyone else in the USG.”

“That’s just a personal choice of my own- there is no rule against it but it’s important to me as I’ve said so many times to remove the potential perception of some conflict of interest,” he added.

On Aug. 15, Hunter followed up, saying: “I will be there and expect if you are able that we can spend time together while I am at the Hyatt. Please call or email if you have an issue entering the hotel- I’ll make sure we can spend time together and maybe you could come with me in motorcade to airport if you have time.”

House Republicans attempted to interview Jeremic earlier this year, seeking any knowledge he might have about $4.8 million that flowed from the Chinese energy firm CEFC to Biden family associates between 2017 and 2018.

The ex-Serbian diplomat in a Dec. 1, 2015, email had invited Hunter to join him and CEFC Chairman Ye Jianming at a dinner in Washington, DC, which the second son had on his calendar, according to records on his laptop.

Archer had introduced Hunter to Jeremic in a Sept. 11, 2014, email, urging him to “be thinking about Mexico entry strategy,” as the Serbian diplomat served on the board of the Mexican oil company Pemex.

Four years before, Hunter joined a vice presidential envoy to Egypt, Kenya and South Africa, where he exchanged emails with his business associate Chris Buccini but was unable to make time for a meeting.

“I would love to buddy, but I think it will be impossible for us to travel outside of Dads package/ delegation,” he wrote in a June 8, 2010, email that referenced taking in the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. “We arrive Jo’burg go directly to opening ceremony and JRB has bi-lats with govt officials and then next day we go to US- UK [England] game and depart for home right after.”

“Please let your friends know how much we appreciate the offer and that we (the Hunter Biden family) would love to stop by and say hello when we return in August,” he added.

President Biden often mentions he is “proud” of his son, Hunter, and frequently brought him up while on vice presidential delegations to Germany, South Korea and Japan.

“My son, who is with me today, a 40-year-old man, will not, when he is my age, be looking at China as a sworn enemy,” Biden told attendees at the Munich Security Conference in February 2013 — just four years before Hunter and first brother James Biden cashed in on the CEFC deal.

“I believe there is healthy competition from a growing, emerging China, which I would argue is in the interest of all of us,” the vice president said, months before his son would introduce him to Chinese business partner Jonathan Li.

Li served as CEO of a joint investment fund with Hunter, BHR Partners, which was controlled by Bank of China Limited.

The CEO shook hands with then-Vice President Biden in the lobby of a hotel during a December 2013 state trip to China, and the vice president later wrote college recommendation letters for Chinese businessman’s children.

BHR registered as a firm two weeks after the US delegation’s visit. According to a transcribed interview with the House Oversight Committee last month, Archer said Li met for coffee with the vice president as well.

Hunter also traveled with his father to Rome in 2015, the year after Russian heiress and former first lady of Moscow Yelena Baturina transferred $3.5 million to a shell company owned by Devon Archer, according to bank records released this month by the House Oversight Committee.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre earlier this month said House Republicans have shown “zero evidence” of the president’s involvement in his son’s business deals.

“They keep turning up documents and witnesses showing that the president wasn’t involved, never discussed these business dealings and did nothing wrong,” she said. “There’s been zero evidence showing otherwise. And so that’s what we have seen over the past several months. That’s what we’ve seen over the past several years. So I’ll leave it at that.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
