British man attacks traffic warden with wooden pole

A British man attacked a traffic warden with a wooden pole after he caught the city worker taking pictures of his van in East London.

A disgruntled driver, 41, who was not identified, was arrested after attacking a traffic warden, 38, in Manor Park on Friday.

Video shot by a driver on the street showed the duo shouting angrily in the middle of the road before the man grabs a long wooden pole and shoves the warden.

When the warden moves to return the assault, the driver, wearing a yellow vest, swings and hits the man several times until the pole breaks in half.

The two get into a tussle as the warden takes several shots at the van driver. The pair fought for several minutes, throwing punches and kicks.

Eventually, another man breaks up the fight after 10 minutes.

The traffic warden reportedly suffered a finger injury and his headphones were broken. The 41-year-old driver was not hurt.

The witness who shot the video said they weren’t shocked to see the crime happen in the area, as “so much crime” happens around Manor Park.

“I didn’t think the man was going to get a piece of wood though. I was just glad it didn’t get out of hand,” the unidentified witness told SWNS.

The witness had been driving down the block to get to a friend’s house when he saw the fight break out and said a lot of people stopped to watch.

“I had to drive an alternative route but when I drove past 10 minutes later they were still there. I presume they were waiting for the police,” they told SWNS.

The Metropolitan Police arrested the man on suspicion of criminal damage and causing actual bodily harm.

The matter has since been resolved through a community resolution.

“The victim agreed to accept payment from the suspect to replace the damaged earphones,” police said. “The assault allegation was not proceeded with.”

A Newham Council spokesperson said: “We are pleased that the Police have taken immediate action to deal with this man, who attacked one of our staff as he was carrying out his duties.

“The prompt arrest underlines our own clear message of Newham’s zero tolerance policy to abuse and violence aimed at staff; we will always standby employees in pursuit of justice if they are victimized.”
