Video shows shocking ‘attempted murder’ in NYC by son of prominent Israeli official

Shocking footage obtained by The Post shows the son of a top Israeli official in New York City brutally beating one of his fellow countrymen outside a SoHo nightclub.

In the video, Jonathan Maimon — who works at the country’s Defense Ministry in New York City — can be seen with an open shirt walking up behind the victim, Maor Onono, just after 3 a.m. on Feb. 26.

He then begins pummeling Onono with a large glass jug in what the NYPD called an “unprovoked” attack.

The beating continued after Onono, 42, fell to the ground. Maimon, 24, leaning over him, struck Onono with six further blows before running down Prince Street.

Onono was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he received treatment for a brain bleed as well as lacerations to the back of his head which required stitches and staples to close, according to a criminal complaint from the Manhattan DA’s office.

Additional shoulder surgery is planned for August.

“I feel in the past four and a half months that I’m basically out emotionally and physically and mentally. I am in kind of a jail. Because I am not myself,” Onono told the Post.

Maimon was charged with attempted murder.

If convicted he faces up to 25 years in prison.

Onono, a restaurant owner originally from Israel who lives on the Upper East Side, said he and Maimon were strangers and had been at Gospel to hear an Israeli DJ performing there.

Maimon, who is on leave from his job pending the outcome of the investigation, is the son of former Israeli Cabinet Secretary Israel Maimon.

The younger Maimon is currently out on bail — and has even been allowed to visit his mother back in Israel, according to Ynet, which first obtained the video.

Maimon’s lawyer Jeffrey Lichtman said he is working to get the charges downgraded to assault.

“There was never any attempt to murder anyone here,” Lichtman said.
