Accused Philly shooter Kimbrady Carriker had ‘indications of mental health issues’: prosecutors

The man charged with killing five people in a Philadelphia shooting spree displayed signs of mental health issues and “abnormal behavior” prior to the massacre, prosecutors said.

Kimbrady Carriker, 40, was arrested Monday after firing indiscriminately throughout several blocks in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood, in a rampage prosecuting District Attorney Larry Krasner described as “obviously planned’ and likely fueled by the shooter’s poor mental health.

“I can certainly tell you that there are indications of mental health issues,” Krasner told CNN. “There are indications of irrational behavior. There are indications of irrational statements and irrational acts.”

Carriker is currently being held in the infirmary at the detention center in the Philadelphia area, an official told The Post Thursday, but would not elaborate further.

The revelation comes following reports that Carriker carried out the massacre, where one of the victims was a 15-year-old boy, in order to curb gun violence in the city. Two boys aged 13 and two were also hurt in the violent outburst.

The gunman’s alleged confession appears to fall in line with his erratic social media posts, which indicated he was becoming more divorced from reality, assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore told reporters Wednesday.

Pescatore said Carriker was displaying “abnormal behavior for quite a while,” but had been “getting more and more agitated as the days were passing.”

Investigators said his social media pages were filled with posts celebrating pro-gun groups, with his comments growing more and and more unhinged in the days leading up to the shooting.

The gunman’s social media history revealed several pro-gun group posts supporting the Second Amendment and former President Donald Trump, with Carriker even uploading a video claiming Joe Biden was trying to “take our arms,” officials said.

His recent social media history also included posts where Carriker complained about crime in Philly, claiming the old were corrupting the youth and that regular citizens should tackle crime directly.

His roommates echoed concerns about Carriker’s strange behavior, telling detectives the gunman was a “biblical extremist” who believed in vigilante justice with regular people assisting police, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The roommates also said Carriker had begun routinely wearing a bullet proof vest, wielding a gun, invoking religion and screaming inside the house. However, those who lived in the house declined to speak when approached by The Post Thursday.

Carriker — who wore a bulletproof vest and ski mask while carrying out the massacre — was arraigned Wednesday on a slew of charges, including five counts of murder as well as attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges.

The Philadelphia man is accused of killing Daujan Brown, 15; Lashyd Merritt, 20; Dymir Stanton, 29; Joseph Wamah Jr., 31; and Ralph Moralis, 59.

He also shot and wounded a 2-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy who was best friends with Brown, police added.

The city’s Public Defender’s Office, which will represent Carriker, declined to comment on the case.
