Woman dies after botched backstreet butt fillers

A stunning model has died following complications from a botched butt lift.

Lygia Fazio, 40, passed away in her native Brazil on Thursday, leaving behind two young sons, David and Thor.

The single mom was hospitalized three weeks ago after she suffered a stroke amid ongoing issues resulting from the unauthorized cosmetic procedure.

“Unfortunately, our warrior has passed away,” a pal wrote to Fazio’s 941,000 Instagram followers. “I will soon announce here the times of her farewell. We thank everyone for their support.”

Fazio first had a Brazilian butt lift back in 2013, but later told local media that her boyfriend was left unsatisfied by the results.

Several years ago, the beauty underwent a second “clandestine” procedure, purportedly carried out by a surgeon without the requisite qualifications.

During the procedure, industrial silicone and PMMA fillers were injected into Fazio’s buttocks.

PMMA, or polymethylmethacrylate, is a synthetic resin often used as a substitute for glass and is sold under the trademarks Plexiglas, Lucite and Perspex.

In a regular butt lift procedure, tiny PMMA microspheres suspended in a biological fluid are injected via a needle as a soft-tissue filler under the skin.

A 2019 study published by the National Institutes of Health found that “PMMA proved to cause few side effects” and was “one of the best options for gluteal augmentation.”

However, in Fazio’s case, the substances spread throughout the model’s body, causing serious infection.

In 2021, she spent more than three months in hospital after having the PMMA removed from her body.

In an interview conducted with local media in March 2022, Fazio explained: “The product seems to ‘move’ in the body, it goes down to the legs. In my case, it went to the sides. So, I had to have it removed, I had a heart-shaped incision.

“Four months ago [Dec. 2021] the doctor removed all the silicone and PMMA,” she stated.

However, that operation failed to fix the problems caused by the injectables, with Fazio suffering a stroke last month.

Fazio’s friend, journalist Meiri Borges, shared a series of videos on Instagram talking about the model’s death.

“She always sought perfection, she was always very beautiful, stunning and there’s no room for judgment here,” Borges declared. “She always wanted to look more beautiful, feel better, and she sought help from people who were not professionals.”

“For a while, I think professionals were using substances that were legalized and so on, but after a while, she wanted more, and doctors didn’t want to do it, so she resorted to clandestine procedures,” she continued.

“And that was the ticking time bomb in her life. The industrial silicone mixed with PMMA started spreading throughout her body, causing an infection, a bacteria.”

Devastated fans flooded Fazio’s Instagram account to vent their sadness at her death — and their rage at those who perform backstreet butt lifts.

“Why will these murderous doctors continue to use PMMA on people?” one wrote. “This is a crime! It should be prohibited. Rest in peace, Lygia Fazio.”
