Biden expels Mayor Eric Adams from campaign leadership team

President Biden has benched Mayor Eric Adams.

Just two months after Adams announced he would be serving on the president’s campaign national leadership advisory team, the group’s official membership list was released Wednesday — and Adams’ name was nowhere to be found.

While Adams didn’t make the cut, the list included other New York leaders, from major figures like Gov. Kathy Hochul to lesser-knowns like Queens Rep. Grace Meng.

The apparent snub had many wondering if Adams’ criticism over Biden’s handling of the migrant crisis was the reason he did not make the panel.

“This is a shot to the chops from the Biden team,” said political consultant Hank Sheinkopf.

“The message is: Don’t criticize an incumbent Democratic president and don’t criticize the first black female vice president.

“Any criticism from a Democrat heading into re-election is seen as a betrayal.”

The list included by the Biden-Kamala Harris re-election campaign includes 50 prominent Democrats.

It includes Democrat executive surrogates from eight other cities: Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass,  Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval, Madison, Wisconsin Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and Richmond, Va. Mayor Levar Stoney.

Other regional Democrats appointed to the Biden-Harris leadership team were New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Sen. Cory Booker, and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont.

The press release linked to a video showing many of the supporters expressing their support for the Biden-Harris ticket.

The omission of Adams from the list came after he declared in March that he would be serving on the Biden campaign’s national advisory board.

At the time, he said he would not pull back from criticism, or alter his position of pushing the White House and Congress for federal funds to help the city finance the cost of housing migrants while serving as a Biden campaign surrogate.

He claimed the multi-year price tag exceed $4 billion.

“I think to the contrary, and again, those who cover me and know me know that I’m going to speak on behalf of the people of this city, no matter what panel I am on,” he said then.

Neither Adams for the Biden camp could explain the discrepancy between Adam’s earlier comments and his name being left off the list.

Mayoral spokesman Fabien Levy only said Wednesday: “As the mayor has previously stated, he stands ready to help the president with reelection however he can.”

Democrat strategists claim the Adams’ omission from the list is clearly payback for the mayor’s open criticism of Biden and Harris’ handling of the border crisis that triggered a wave of 60,000 migrants to flood the city over the past year, with more than 38,000 housed in shelters.

The mayor has complained that Biden and the federal government have failed to step up with aid to help the nation’s largest city handle the flow, saying last month, “The national government has turned its back on New York City.”

He also said the crisis has “destroyed” the city.

Sheinkopf said Adam’s criticism on the migrant crisis could be used as fodder by Republicans in campaign ads to bolster their case that Biden is soft on border enforcement.

New York State Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs recirculated the Biden’s campaign’s release, noting that Hochul and Meng were on it.

Jacobs said he had “no idea” why Adams didn’t make the list, but downplayed any rift between the president and the mayor.

“President Biden thinks very highly of Mayor Adams. I’ve seen them together,” Jacobs said.
