Ten injured on Portugal flight after severe turbulence hits

Ten people were injured after a flight bound for Portugal was struck by severe turbulence — sending people and loose items flailing about inside the cabin.

Pulse-pounding footage from inside the plane shows Brazilian influencer Diana Assis poking fun at the moment the turbulence first hit the March 23 flight from Angola to Portugal.

Assis, who was holding a glass of wine at the time, was filming the shakey ride and giggling, but the fun was quickly interrupted when a powerful jolt sent the drink flying out of her hand as people yelled in terror.

Other videos from inside the plane depicted the aftermath — showing food and drinks splattered all over the cabin and a crack in one of the ceiling panels.

Ten people were reportedly injured on the flight, which was operated by TAAG Angola Airlines, and eight of the injured required medical assistance.

Assis told her followers that one of the injured was allegedly an infant who had flown out of their parent’s arms and hit the ceiling.

She said the “terrifying” turbulence struck about two hours after takeoff just as lunch was being served.

“It only lasted a few seconds but it was enough to leave some people injured and the crew provided first aid before landing,” she added.

TAAG said in a statement that the incident was caused by “adverse atmospheric conditions,” which hit when the plane was flying over the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The agency said an ambulance and medical team was sent to Portugal’s Lisbon airport, where the flight landed at 8:37 p.m., to take care of the injured passengers. A doctor was aboard the flight and assisted the injured.

TAAG had been banned from flying aircrafts into the European Union in 2007 due to safety concerns, with the company launching major overhauls to reverse the decision.

It remained partly banned until April 2019, when all restrictions were lifted following several policy relaxations.

TAAG did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment about the recent incident.
