Biden’s job approval ratings remain mired in the 40s: poll

President Biden’s job approval rating remains underwater while most Americans disagree with his handling of foreign policy and the economy, according to a new poll.

The Gallup survey released Tuesday showed 40% of Americans approve of the overall job Biden is doing, the sixth consecutive poll where that number fell between 40% and 42%.

The president’s Gallup approval ratings have been mired in the 40s since August 2022. At the same time, his disapproval marks have stayed in the 50s, hitting 56% in the latest poll.

The 80-year-old’s handling of some of the most consequential issues facing the country also meet with disapproval in the survey.

Two-thirds of Americans (67%) disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy, up from 64% in February. On foreign affairs, 60% disapprove of Biden’s actions, up from 57% in February.

More Americans also took issue with Biden’s handling of environmental issues, with 55% disapproving compared to 48% in August 2022.

The poll also found that 59% of Americans disapproved of Biden’s energy policies, up six percentage points from August of last year.

Biden’s approval rating among Democrats jumped to 87% from 80% in February, according to the survey — but independents and Republicans see his presidency very differently.

Independents give Biden a 35% approval rating, down from 40% last month.

Republicans, meanwhile, can hardly hold Biden in any lower estimation. They give him a 3% approval rating, down from 6% in February and matching lows previously recorded in May and June of last year.

“Biden continues to face challenges at home and abroad. Inflation remains stubbornly high, the banking crisis has further complicated the economic climate, and tensions with Russia, China and now Iran are high,” Gallup concluded.

“His overall approval rating has remained steady at the same level since September, and his ratings on the economy and foreign affairs are weak.”

The poll surveyed 1,009 US adults between March 1 and 23. It has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
