Alec Baldwin sued by ‘Rust’ crew over fatal shooting PTSD

Alec Baldwin and the other producers of “Rust” were sued this week by three crew members who claim they suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after the on-set fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

In a civil suit filed in New Mexico on Monday, dolly operator Ross Addiego, set costumer Doran Curtin, and key grip Reese Price allege they were inside the church building on Bonanza Creek Ranch on Oct. 21, 2021 when Baldwin’s pistol fired a real bullet, hitting Hutchins and director Joel Souza, Variety reported.

All three claim they suffered “blast injuries” from the loud shot, while Curtin states Hutchins, 42, collapsed on the ground right in front of her.

“Plaintiff Curtin put her hands on Hutchins’ stomach, trying to find the source of Hutchins’ pain and figure out what was going on,” the suit states.

“As the chaos continued, Plaintiff Curtin was ushered out of the church. Once outside, she collapsed from the effects of the blast and the shock of the shooting.”

Hutchins was airlifted to a hospital but pronounced dead later that day.

In the months following the shooting, the plaintiffs allege they were abandoned without adequate resources to address their struggles, which include “insomnia, anxiety, depression, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.”

The suit blames the shooting on Baldwin and his fellow producers, who the crew members say hired inexperienced or slapdash staff – including armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed – in order to save time and money on the low-budget Western.

The filing also cites allegations the “30 Rock” actor, 64, negligently did not pay attention during weapons training and failed to ensure that the gun was not loaded before discharging a round.

The Monday lawsuit is the latest in a flurry of legal actions against Baldwin, who pleaded not guilty earlier this month to involuntary manslaughter charges stemming from Hutchins’ death.

If convicted of the charges before them, both Baldwin and Gutierrez Reed, 25, face up to 18 months behind bars.

According to Variety, Baldwin is also starring down several additional civil actions from other “Rust” crew members, including a script supervisor, a set medic, and a gaffer.

Last week, NBC reported Baldwin’s lawyers asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to pause a civil suit by script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, citing Baldwin’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self recrimination.

Baldwin previously settled a wrongful death case actioned by Hutchins’ husband, Matthew, for an undisclosed amount in Oct. 2022.
