Boy, 8, hospitalized after getting hung from neck by rope ladder at PA amusement park

An 8-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after he got stuck hanging by his neck from a rope ladder at an indoor Pennsylvania amusement park in a freak accident, according to local reports.

The boy was left unconscious before two off-duty police officers at the Thrillz High Flying Adventure Park in King of Prussia came to his aid and performed CPR Saturday afternoon, according to CBS3.

The park’s owner said the child got tangled up after he started climbing headfirst down a rope ladder.

“After our investigation and reviewing camera footage of today’s incident, we can say that the boy was seen climbing headfirst down a rope ladder and became tangled,” owner Lisa Cannon wrote in an email to NBC 10.

The rope was cut by employees to get the boy down within 10 seconds, the owner said.

He was able to speak with first responders and was taken to the hospital, CBS 3 reported.

One parent who witnessed the scary incident while at the park with her son and nephew told NBC 10 there was a lot of screaming and shouting by workers, causing confusion.

“My son and my nephew were really upset,” Elizabeth O’Reilly said. “They just wanted to go. I mean my son was on the verge of tears. A lot of children were crying. A lot of adults were crying.”

The amusement park stayed open Saturday after the accident, but the rope ladder was closed out of caution. It will be enhanced with additional safety features before it reopens, NBC 10 reported.

The boy appeared to be doing OK in the aftermath of what was ruled an accident, police said.
