5 dead in Texas shooting; armed suspect with AR-15 at large

Five people — including an 8-year-old — were shot dead with an AR-15 style rifle at a southeast Texas home by an allegedly drunk man, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly after 11:31 p.m. Friday when officials from the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a harassment incident in Cleveland, Texas, ABC News reported.

However, when authorities arrived they found four victims shot dead, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A fifth person died at a local hospital. Three others were injured in the incident, authorities said.

Ten people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, according to KHOU-11.

The victims ranged in age from 8 to 40 years old, and they’re all from Honduras.

The 8-year-old and two female victims were discovered in the bedroom, lying on top of two surviving children, authorities said.

Police are on the lookout for a “Mexican male subject,” who remains armed and on the run.

The suspect was described by authorities as a Mexican male armed with an AR-15-style rifle who is intoxicated.

“The Mexican male subject, he has been known to shoot his 223 out in his front yard, which is evident by the shell casings that are laying in the front yard,” said the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office.

Residents in and around the Cleveland, Texas, area were told by police to stay inside and stay clear of the crime scene until the investigation has concluded.
