16-year-old bludgeons 2 students, staffer at posh UK boarding school

Two students and a staff member were hospitalized on Friday after they were allegedly bludgeoned by a teen in a dormitory at an upscale English boarding school.

Two male pupils sustained serious injuries in the early-morning attack at Blundell’s School in Tiverton, Devon, the BBC reported.

One of the boys remains in critical condition, the outlet said.

A third victim, an adult male staff member, was reportedly discharged from the hospital after also receiving serious wounds.

The alleged attacker, a 16-year-old local boy, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody, according to the Guardian.

Devon and Cornwall Police Superintendent Antony Hart told the outlet that multiple weapons were found at the scene, but declined to provide more details on the nature of the attack.

“Our investigation is being assisted by experts who are assessing the injuries sustained and how they were caused, ” he said.

“This is a very traumatic incident for those involved and the wider school community and we will continue to work closely with the school, providing support to those involved.”

The parent of another pupil, however, told the Guardian that the attacker was also a student at the tony school.

“All the kids involved are pupils. One lad has gone into a dormitory and attacked the two pupils with a hammer,” they said.

“And then the teacher was attacked. It was one of the teachers who reside at the house. God knows what the motive was.”

Officials have not confirmed what type of weapon was used in the attack.

In a letter to parents and guardians seen by the BBC, Blundell’s headmaster Bart Wielenga said there would be a police presence around the Petergate dorm for “some time.”

“I will reassure them that support is available to anyone who feels upset by what has happened,” he wrote, adding that the staff were confident the attack was an “isolated incident.”

As of Friday afternoon local time, forensics teams were still working at the scene, Guardian reported.

According to its website, Blundell’s School was founded in 1604 under the will of Peter Blundell, a wealthy Elizabethan clothier. Today, well-heeled parents pay over $50,000 for boarding students.

The institution counts television personality Georgia Toffolo and dog breeder John “Jack” Russell among its alumni.
